Seamless gutters are better in almost every way. They are fabricated on-site in one continuous piece, so there are no joints to leak. Sectional gutters have seams every 10 feet, and each seam is a potential leak point. Seamless costs slightly more but lasts longer and requires less maintenance.

If you have trees near your roof, gutter guards save you time and prevent clogs that cause water damage. They keep leaves and debris out while letting water flow through. They do not eliminate maintenance entirely, but they reduce cleaning frequency from twice a year to once every few years.

Without gutter guards, twice a year is the minimum: once in late fall after leaves drop and once in spring. If you have pine trees or other heavy shedders nearby, you may need more frequent cleaning. Clogged gutters cause water to overflow and damage your foundation, siding, and landscaping.
